Today’s distraction: Google’s Doodle featuring a playable Moog
As if the Internet doesn’t provide enough distractions already (we’re looking at you, LOLCats), Google is featuring a doodle celebrating Robert Moog’s 78th birthday. His Moog synthesizer changed the way we hear music and brought electronic music to the masses, as Charles Carlini, a New York concert promoter, told the Associated Press.
So of course we had to make a song (not a very good one). We have a feeling you could do better. Send us a link to yours.
Not sure how to use the Doodle? Check out this video tutorial courtesy of the Goog.

Gotye’s ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ is the most-played song in Austin, in case you didn’t know after hearing it 245 times this past week.

UPDATE: We’re seeing Red Hot Chili Peppers and Childish Gambino will be a part of the fest as well.
Earlier: So far, we know of Steve Earle, Delta Spirit, Punch Brothers, Quiet Company and LP are among this year’s performers.
It sounds like R. Kelly’s performance at The Mansion in North Austin was a big fail. R. Kelly didn’t arrive at the venue until 12:45 a.m. and performed a medley of songs for about five minutes.
From our scene report:
A few minutes later he took the microphone - still in the V.I.P. section and thus mostly invisible to most there - and did three-quarters of “Ignition (Remix)” and a mostly a cappella bit of “Bump N’ Grind” (with the audience filling in and doing the heavy lifting when it came to singing) before deciding he’d given the crowd what they paid for. That was five minutes, at most, of music, which equates to $6 a minute for the lowest-paying customers.
This weekend, you can pick your musical poison
Need a musical blast from the past this weekend? Take your pick. Concerts around town include Foreigner, Jane’s Addiction, MSTRKRFT and R. Kelly.

Things that are blowing our mind today: Tom Gabel of Against Me! is becoming a woman
It’s kind of a shocker, but go Tom Gabel.

DJ collective Peligrosa brings world of sounds to its dance parties
After realizing that I was supplying a demand for Latin music that wasn’t being met anywhere else in Austin nightclubs, I both knew and had the urge to create a dedicated night for the music I grew up with (mostly Colombian cumbia and Puerto Rican salsa, plena and son).
